On 29–30 October 2019, the Global Landscapes Forum in Accra convened in the Ghanaian capital to accelerate restoration in Africa. Titled “Restoring Africa’s Landscapes – Uniting actions from above and below,” the event saw farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, foresters, pastoralists, policymakers, royalty, and national and international leaders discuss needs and solutions for restoring Africa’s degraded landscapes to an audience of over 500 in person, alongside more than 5,000 online from 99 countries. The Forum reached over 17.5 million people on social media. Held back-to-back with the fourth annual partnership meeting of the continent-wide restoration initiative AFR100 and in the development process of the upcoming U.N. Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), the two days spotlighted African restoration efforts of all scales and sizes, forming partnerships and informing mindsets to achieve more sustainable landscapes and livelihoods on the world’s largest continent.
