Launched by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Government of Germany in 2011, the Bonn Challenge is a worldwide initiative designed to restore degraded and deforested land: 150 million hectares by 2020 and 350 million by 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To meet these objectives, the Challenge draws on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the theory of Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR), which combines concern for ecological integrity with human wellbeing. Coined by IUCN and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), FLR has evolved into a proven nature-based solution with a track record of transforming lives and landscapes around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Based in Bonn, the Global Landscapes Forum has become a vital element in the promotion, discussion, evolution and implementation of the Bonn Challenge.\u00a0 The GLF has facilitated a number of<\/span> high-level discussion forums<\/span><\/a> on the subject of the challenge, driving constructive debate and innovative problem-solving on issues as they arise. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
