(NAIROBI, Kenya, 10 October 2022) -The GLFx Initiative invites applications for funding and support from local organizations or grassroot intiatives that are leading action on the ground for the sustainability of Africa’s landscapes. The funding will include seed capital of EUR 5,000. GLFx is a decentralized network of independently organised chapters and was created to improve landscapes from the ground up by harnessing the efforts of communities to promote and accelerate sustainable landscapes. The initiative is driven by community action plans that aim to facilitate community mobilisation training, the implementation of local restoration actions, and knowledge exchange.
Who can qualify as GLF chapters
- Teams of individuals that are obtaining NGO status
- Existing local NGOs or grassroot initiatives
- Existing networks, partnerships, or institutionalized stakeholder groups
Eligibilty criteria
- Groups of individuals (teams), networks, partnerships, initiatives, and organizations based in Africa
promoting on-the-ground local actions and community meetings towards sustainable land-use in agriculture or restoration
- Foster gender parity
- Have an administrative structure to receive and manage funds
Funding information and other benefits
- Seed funding of EUR 5,000 to run chapter activities
- Community mobilization training to enable coordinated restoration action
- Workshops and/or toolkits to facilitate the implementation of a community action plan
- GLFx Secretariat support in capacity development, outreach and local/global networking opportunities
Expectations from successful Chapters who will have received funding
- Hold regular multi-stakeholder meetings (online or in person) to mobilize your community and coordinate local projects
- Curate an online space on the GLFx platform to share your activities and opportunities, as well as draw more members to your chapter
- Lead action-oriented projects
- Connect and collaborate regularly with the Global Landscapes Forum, including by joining regular meetings and attending learning and knowledge-sharing events
- Engage in activities that foster learning, knowledge generation and sharing, multi-stakeholder collaborations, sustainable practices, and socio-economic transformation
