Join the digital media bootcamp at the Global Landscapes Forum (Bonn, Germany: December 16-20)

15 Nov 2017

Our all-levels bootcamp at the 8th edition of the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) offers something for everyone, from social media beginners to digitally savvy communicators.

Are you eager to learn how to use digital media professionally? Do you want to fine-tune your social media media skills and learn from other communications enthusiasts? Are you passionate about sustainable development and the environment?

If so, join our innovative digital media bootcamp at the 8th edition of the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) in Bonn, Germany

This is not just a training. This… is a bootcamp

Several weeks BEFORE the start of the actual bootcamp, you will be integrated into an online collaborative group preparing the bootcamp and the social reporting online.

You will familiarize yourself with the background and purpose of The Global Landscapes Forum, contribute to the fine-tuning of the bootcamp and the practical exercise.

During the bootcamp, our online media trainers and technical mentors will monitor your output and give interactive feedback, so you can “learn as you go”.

The bootcamp agenda

Saturday Dec 16 (classroom training): “In Theory”
This session presents the full spectrum of online media tools. It is speckled with ample examples of how professionals, specifically in the sectors of agriculture, landscape restoration and sustainable development, use each digital tool, and how organizations can develop their online media strategy using this repertoire.

09:00-12:00 – The Social Media Plethora: Overview of tools, and their use for nonprofit causes
13:00-16:00 – The Social Media Plethora (continued)
16:00-17:00 – Introduction to online media strategies

Sunday Dec 17 (classroom training): “In Practice”
This session will give you insight into how, at the GLF, we design and implement our online media strategy: Our goals, plans, tricks and tools, used as a practical example of how a nonprofit can design an effective online media strategy.
In the afternoon, we will concentrate on how to write engaging social media content by using the practical challenge of “how to write effective blog posts” as a starting point. If you can write catchy blog posts, you will master the skill of writing good content for other social media tools too!

09:00-12:00 – Applied online media strategy: The internals of the GLF online media strategy
13:00-15:00 – The art of writing effective social media content
15:00-18:00 – Practical exercise in writing engaging social media content

Monday Dec 18 (classroom training): “Applied to your world”
This session uses an innovative and participatory bootcamp approach: in the weeks prior to the bootcamp, all participants will pitch ideas for the topics they want to cover. As a group, in the run-up to the bootcamp, you will actively be involved in selecting and preparing these topics. Each topic will be condensed into one hour sessions.

09:00-12:00 – Participatory bootcamp with topics suggested by the participants (Part 1)
13:00-17:00 – … Continued (Part 2)
17:00-18:00 – Pre-conference briefing

Tuesday Dec 19 – Wednesday Dec 20: (practical exercise)
You will use your newly-acquired skills and tools to report live from the GLF Global Event in Bonn on your social media networks during which you will be mentored and guided by our GLF communications team.

The classroom training will be held in Bonn.

About the Global Landscapes Forum:

The Global Landscapes Forum is the first global movement of its kind and the world’s largest science-led multi-sectoral platform on landscapes, bringing together world leaders, climate negotiators, policy makers, development practitioners, private sector representatives, world-class scientists, civil society and the media to accelerate action towards the creation of a more sustainable world.

CIFOR, UN Environment, and The World Bank launched the Forum in Warsaw in 2013, alongside the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP). With support from the German Government, the GLF is now entering its next 5-year phase that will put communities and local realities at the center of the conversation.
