Kenya is the world’s largest producer of camel milk. Yet, most of that production remains informal, underfunded, and invisible to global markets. This session brings together government officials, researchers, pastoralist leaders, and international partners to make the case for a Kenya Camel Centre of Excellence, a nationally endorsed, community-centred institution designed to close critical gaps in camel disease research, breeding, rangeland management, and milk value chain development. The panel discusses how the Centre should be governed, financed, and owned so that the pastoralist communities who have always depended on the camel are the first to benefit from its growing global value.
