How do we close the gap between what communities know about their rangelands and what formal research and policy actually measure? This Landscape Dialogue Series session brings together pastoralists, scientists, and practitioners in a structured dialogue that centres community-defined indicators of rangeland health – from cattle reproduction rates and mobility to conflict reduction and seasonal rhythms. Through keynote exchanges, the session builds a collective case for co-created frameworks that treat pastoralist communities not as subjects of research but as the foundation of rangeland governance – feeding directly into the UNCCD COP17 process and the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
