The Ferlo ecological plateau is home to two-thirds of the Senegal’s ruminants, but it faces several challenges, including drought, the climate crisis and resource scarcity. In the Ferlo region, cross-border transhumance has resulted in violent tensions between farmers and pastoralists as they compete for land and water, leading herders to encroach on farmland while searching for new pastures for their animals.
This video explores how initiatives have been introduced to encourage dialogue between the two communities, including pastoral units to facilitate the sharing of pastoral lands, water points and economic activities, thus transforming conflict into collaboration.
